NRL sponsorship revenues up by AU$3 million

Australia’s National Rugby League (NRL) secured an additional AU$3 million in sponsorship for the 2010 season, which commences on March 12, despite a spate of well publicised off-field incidents in 2009.

According to Australian Sponsorship News, the extra revenue has come in the form of one new major sponsorship deal and four major renewals. Last year the sport was shamed after a Four Corners investigation found a culture of group sex within the NRL.

Under the new deal, Keno, a brand of sports betting business TABCORP, will become the NRL's Saturday football sponsor from 2010 to 2012. TABCORP's TAB Sportbet has also renewed its major sponsorship for another three years.

Suncorp-owned insurer AAMI, retailer Harvey Norman and Coca-Cola Amatil have all renewed sponsorship deals.

Most of the NRL major sponsorship deals now run through to the end of the 2012 season, just prior to the start of new broadcast arrangements, which are currently under negotiation.
