TRACAB agrees J-League stats deal

Swedish technology firm TRACAB has agreed a deal with Japanese media company DataStaduim to provide match statistics for media outlets covering Japan's top football league.

TRACAB and DataStadium will also provide the J-League with statistics, enabling clubs to analyse player performances in greater detail. The deal will see TRACAB's motion tracking system being used at J-League matches, to measure the movements of players and the ball. The technology is based on missile-tracking systems developed by Swedish aircraft manufacturer Saab for its fighter jets.

“The choice of TRACAB as our partner had a lot to do with the fact that they have the best proven technology for producing exciting real-time statistics,” said Yoshihiko Kato, President of DataStadium. “But what came to be the decisive factor in our choice was TRACAB’s broad experience from working with entire football leagues, something no other provider has.”

The TRACAB system was used during EURO 2008 matches, and is currently used by several leagues in Europe. It was used in the Uefa Champions League, before rival company STATS became that competition's partner for motion-tracking at the beginning of this season.
