Broadcaster M6 to fund Bordeaux stadium

French commercial broadcaster M6, owner of Ligue 1 champions Girondins de Bordeaux, plans to fund part of the club’s new stadium.

“We are ready to spend €100 million euros as an investment in a stadium in Bordeaux,” M6 chief executive Nicolas de Tavernost told news agency Reuters.

In exchange, M6 wants the rights to operate the venue for 35 years. According to the French bid to host the Euro 2016, Bordeaux is one of the possible host cities that would need a new stadium.

Estimated cost for the construction of a 40,000-seater to replace the 34,000-capacity Chaban-Delmas Stadium is €250 million. The remaining €150 million is likely to be covered by federal and local government investment.
