Galway Bay venue chosen by Powerboat P1

Galway, Ireland will be the venue for the third round of the 2010 Powerboat P1 Superstock Championship.

Ireland last hosted a major powerboat event four years ago, when the same teams that will compete this June raced in the Honda Formula 4-Stroke Association event in Bangor.

This year’s round will take place on June 5 to 7, in conjunction with the Around Ireland Offshore Powerboat Race 2010, being organised by regional promoter Let’s Do It Galway and the Irish Offshore Powerboat Club. Let’s Do It Galway is expected 250,000 visitors at a week-long nautical festival built around the Around Ireland Offshore Powerboat Race.

“Galway Bay is a unique location and offers the prospect of thrilling viewing practically in the heart of the city,” said Justin McInerney of the Irish Offshore Powerboat Club.

Powerboat P1 Chief Operating Officer Robert Wicks said: “Powerboat P1 is delighted to be part of this Irish maritime festival and entering into a new market. Ireland has a strong following and a long tradition of powerboat racing and we are sure that Powerboat P1 will complement the fantastic week of competition and vibrant entertainment Galway is famous for.”
