NBC recently forecast its first loss on an Olympics for thirty years. It expects to lose $250 million on the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, which begin on February 12. Bloomberg reports that NBC Universal Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Zucker has said the broadcaster will make a “fiscally prudent” bid for the 2014 and 2016 rights.
Fox Sports Chairman David Hill said his channel’s bid would ensure that no loss was made.
“I’ve worked at News Corp. too long and I know that having brackets around numbers is a bad career move,” Hill said in an interview in January.
“It’s hard to perceive that it’s going to be any quantum leap higher than it is now,” Bloomberg reports sports consultant and former NBC executive Michael Trager as saying.
