AIBA grows funding scheme for disadvantaged boxers

The International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) will create more training camps targeted at boxers from disadvantaged nations.

The “Road to Milan” scheme created for the 2009 World Championships will be mirrored by schemes for all AIBA World Championships. The London 2012 Olympics will also be covered. Funding towards travel, accommodation, board and local transport expenses for 16-day pre-event training camps and the events, will be provided by the schemes.

Xiamen, China was the venue for AIBA’s announcement of the expanded “Road to…” plans, at the first AIBA Executive Committee meeting of 2010.

Other news coming out of the meeting included the choosing of Astana, Khazakhstan to host the 2011 Junior World Championships.
