English Premier League club plans to build a 56,250-seater stadium next to their current London home, White Hart Lane, but CABE said it will not support the club’s current stadium plans after elements of regeneration “fell below expected standards”.
“Although we support the design of the stadium, regrettably we cannot support the planning application as a whole,” reported CABE in their design review.
“We are concerned that an overall masterplan for the site is not evident: the three components - the stadium, supermarket, and housing - feel like very separate projects without convincing spatial relationships between them.”
Spurs will now work on a proposal to improve elements relating to housing, retail spaces and a public square. The new stadium is one of the possible venues to be presented to FIFA by England’s bid to host the World Cup in 2018 or 2022.
