UK newspaper The Guardian reports that the deal will give YouTube live rights even in countries where television rights deals have been agreed, and where television rights deals will still be sought. This is a change in strategy since 2008, when the internet rights were first sold and the IPL said that they would not be sold in territories where there were live television rights deals.
YouTube’s deal covers the 2010 and 2011 editions of the event. YouTube and the IPL will split revenue from sponsorship and advertising. IPL was aided in making the deal by online cricket specialists Global Cricket Ventures,
Willow TV owns the US IPL internet rights.
