EBU and FINA extend media rights deal

The free-to-air broadcasters of the European Broadcasting Union will continue to show Fédération Internationale de Natation swimming events until 2013 under an extended media rights deal announced yesterday.

The deal covers the 2011 and 2013 FINA World Championships and the 2010 and 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m). The events will be shown by EBU broadcasters in 62 territories, on television, internet, mobile and radio.

EBU Director General Ingrid Deltenre said: “We are pleased to have been chosen by FINA to be their exclusive European partner across all media for the World Championships and to continue to broadcast swimming widely. The Swimming World Championships are one of the most exciting and popular sports events, and guarantee good ratings for European public broadcasters.”

The 62 territories covered by the deal are: Albania, Algeria, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark , Egypt, Estonia, Finland, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lebanon, Libya, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Uzbekistan, Vatican.
