AT&T hangs up on Woods

US telecoms company AT&T has become the latest company to end its sponsorship of Tiger Woods amid the ongoing fallout of allegations that he had extra-marital affairs with several women.

"We are ending our sponsorship agreement with Tiger Woods and wish him well in the future," a spokesman for the company said on Thursday, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.

AT&T had taken over from General Motors as the sponsor on Woods' golf bag last February. The company is believed to have had rights to use Woods in its advertisements, but it had not yet done so. AT&T had also sponsored Woods' annual charity fundraiser concert Tiger Jam.

One analyst the Wall Street Journal spoke to noted that AT&T was less exposed to damage from the mounting scandals surrounding the golfer than some other sponsors who remain involved with him.

"There is less fallout for AT&T because there is less public awareness of Tiger's relationship with AT&T," said Kevin Adler, founder and president of sports and entertainment marketing firm Engage Marketing Inc.

"You couldn't walk through an airport without seeing a Tag or Accenture ad with Tiger."
