Terrorism fears cost PCB over $50m

The Pakistan Cricket Board lost $47.22 million due to the cancellation of this year’s planned international test series against India because of safety fears after terrorist attacks in the two countries.

Asian news website Dawn.com reports that a PCB document has shown that the PCB is facing losses of $51.22 million in total due to the effect on the cricket calendar of the danger of terrorist attacks in the country. Besides the India tour cancellation, being stripped of the rights to host the 2011 Cricket World Cup cost the PCB $2 million, and losing the rights to host the ICC Champions Trophy in 2008 cost it $2 million.

Dawn.com reports that PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt has said it will also fail to make a profit from One Day International and Twenty20 series’ against Australia and New Zealand, which were held in Abu Dhabi and Dubai due to the Australia and New Zealand refusing to play in Pakistan on security grounds.
