World Series champions the New York Yankees paid the highest average salary to its players this year, $7.66 million. It is the 11th consecutive season that the team has held top spot on the list.
The Yankees were followed by the Chicago Cubs on $4.63 million, the Boston Red Sox on $4.58 million, the Detroit Tigers on $4.43 million, and St Louis Cardinals on $4.42 million.
Lowest was Pittsburgh on $790,000, which was also the lowest average in the major leagues since 2006.
MLB management will release its own figures for the average salary in the next few weeks, which are usually slightly different due to a different calculation method.
