The seven matches are all early qualifying round fixtures, one from the Champions League and six from the Europa League. The clubs involved are KF Tirana, KS Vllaznia (both from Albania), FC Dinaburg (Latvia), NK IB Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Budapest Honved FC (Hungary).
The European governing body denied reports that members of its staff are under suspicion, but launched its own investigation into the possible involvement of three referees and one other individual connected to UEFA.
Besides UEFA’s list of 40 suspected games, German authorities are looking into around 200 matches, the majority from domestic leagues in Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Slovenia, Switzerland and Turkey. Representatives of those nine national associations met yesterday with representatives of the governing body at its headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
