Nigerian sponsor threatens legal action

Telecoms company Globacom has denied the 2009 payment of their sponsorship of the Nigeria Football Federation has been late by 11 months.

In an official statement, the company said it “may seek redress in court if the federation fails to retract the statement”.

Omodele Sarafa-Yusuf, Globacom head of sponsored assets, said that “Globacom has adhered strictly to the payment terms as specified in Clause 4.1-2 on page four of the contract signed in 2004.”

The company pays 150 million Nigerian Nairas ($1 million/€680,000) for its sponsorship of all the country’s national sides and claims to have invested over N6 billion ($40 million/€27 million) since 2003 in the development of the Nigeria teams and the Nigerian Premier League.
