Reuters reports that several people were arrested in raids in Germany and other countries, which the German police say suggests players, coaches, referees and officials have been bribed to manipulate and bet on matches.
Uefa has supported the investigation, providing the police with data on unusual betting patterns.
The Berliner Morgenpost newspaper daily reported the Turkish premier league was one of the targets.
“This earthquake will shake the credibility of this sport for a long time,” an unnamed investigator told the newspaper.
