Government support for Poznan 2014 Youth Olympics bid

The Polish government has said it will give full support to the bid by Poznan to host the 2014 Youth Olympics.

At a press conference to announce the government’s support, Polish sports minister Adam Giersz said: “I am here today to show the full support and commitment from the Polish government for Poznan’s bid to host the 2014 Youth Olympic Games. Our national government, the city of Poznan and our National Olympic Committee are completely ready for the responsibilities the Youth Olympic Games bear and would be honoured to host such an exciting event.”

The Mayor of Poznan pointed to the 16,000 Facebook users that are supporting the Poznan bid as evidence of strong support among young people around the world for the bid.

Poznan has previously hosted the 2009 Rowing World Championships, the 2009 European Championships in Basketball, and will be one of host cities for Euro 2012.
