UK newspaper The Times reported that the development is to cost £400 million and will involve adding around 7,500 seats, a new cricket academy, and extending the museum at the venue. The building plans have been approved by MCC members and are awaiting approval by Westminster City Council.
The Times reported that Bradshaw said selling the naming rights was “an option”, but the MCC chief told BBC radio that the move had not been discussed and the MCC did not want to “sell its soul. The Times had also reported the MCC is considering selling naming rights for the seven stands at the ground, replacing the current names, which are testimonials to former players.
The new stadium design will be carried out by leading architecture firm Herzog and de Meuron, who also designed the Tate Modern museum in London and the Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing.
