Michael Jordan’s son scuppers university sponsorship deal

Sportswear brand adidas ended a $3 million sponsorship of the University of Central Florida’s athletic department after a son of basketball star Michael Jordan played a match for the university wearing Nike shoes named after his father.

Bloomberg reports that Marcus Jordan told the University he would only wear Nike Air Jordan shoes, as a tribute to his father.

Adidas spokeswoman Andrea Corso told the Orlando Sentinel newspaper: “The University of Central Florida has chosen not to deliver on their contractual commitment to Adidas.

“As a result, we have chosen not to continue our relationship with them moving forward.”

The university had a “tentative” contract with Adidas until 2015, valued at $3 million, according to the Sentinel.
