Sky Italia’s Serie A rights deal blocked by court

An Italian court has blocked a deal agreed by Italian pay-broadcaster Sky Italia for a package of rights for Italian league football for the 2010-11 and 2011/12 seasons.

Rival broadcaster Conto TV had challenged the deal, which was for the ‘Platinum’ package of rights covering all Serie A matches. The award was made by Lega Calcio.

Reuters reports that Rupert Murdoch-owned Sky Italia said it was surprised by the decision and would challenge the decision.
