French Open may move from Roland Garros

The French tennis federation (FFT) has threatened to move the French Open from Roland Garros if plans for a new roofed centre court are not approved by Paris City Council.

Reuters reports that the FFT said the plan is facing ‘hostility’ from the Council and local residents.

“We are now forced to look for other options, including that of leaving the premises,” said director general Gilbert Ysern.

The project was announced last May, with an estimated finish date of 2013 or 2014. Paris City Council and the French government were to put €20 million each towards the total cost of €120 million.
