FIA votes today on new president

The International Automobile Federation (FIA) will today elect a new president to succeed controversial incumbent Max Mosley.

Either ex-Ferrari boss Jean Todt or former World Rally champion Ari Vatanen will take over. Reuters reports that Todt is the favourite to win the election in Paris.

But Todt and Vatanen have waged a increasingly personal battle to win the favour of FIA voters. Todt has the backing of Mosley but Vatanen has campaigned on a platform of change and the opportunity to make a clean break fro the Mosley era. Mosley has been at the centre of some high profile rows about his management of motorsport – especially this summer with the FIA-Formula One Teams Association row that threatened this year’s F1 season.
