Rogge’s comments come after last weekend’s violence which saw 33 people killed in clashes between drug trafficking gangs in the city.
"Security arrangements of the Games have always been very strong...we are confident that the Brazilians will find good ways to do that," Rogge told news agency Reuters.
"We still have seven years of time to prepare, we will benefit also from the experience and the new measures being taken for the (soccer) World Cup in 2014, so I will say we have to trust the Brazilians to do that."
