NBA to vote on Nets sale

NBA commissioner David Stern has said the owners of teams in the league will vote before the end of the year to approve the sale of the New Jersey Nets team to Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov.

But The International Herald Tribune reports that Stern made the deal “sound almost like a given” when he said, “We’re looking forward to the completion of that transaction.” The deal needs the approval of 23 of the league’s 30 owners.

Prokhorov had his first meeting with other NBA team owners at a meeting on Wednesday during the league’s board of governors meeting in New York.
“I would say that he came off as a very intelligent businessman, with a good sense of humor, sort of an ability to get outside of himself and laugh a little bit,” Stern said of the meeting, as reported by The International Herald Tribune.
