Germany plans to beef up World Cup security

The German football federation (DFB) plans to increase the number of security staff looking after the national team at next year’s World Cup due to concerns about South Africa’s crime rate.

"We will have more own security personnel than before," said the DFB’s Helmut Spahn, who is in charge of security, as reported by Reuters.
"We are in contact with several companies," he told SportBild magazine.

About a dozen security staff will accompany the team from Germany, and the DFB may hire more locally-based German bodyguards.
