English squash receives public sector boost

England Squash & Racketball, the governing body of the two sports in England, has signed a new deal with DC Leisure, a leading provider of public leisure services, to upgrade the 2,000 public squash courts in the country.

The three-year deal, which begins October 15, will also see DC Leisure staff trained by coaches in delivering coaching programmes, and hosting tournaments and events.

A ‘pay and play’ scheme is being introduced which will allow amateur players using public squash courts to become members of England Squash & Racketball and take part in officially-recognised competitions and tournaments. Previously, membership was limited to players who were members of affiliated squash clubs.

There will also be efforts to incorporate squash and racketball into children’s holiday programmes; providing junior, female-only, and over-50s squash and racketball sessions, sessions; and creating university and workplace/corporate sessions.

England Squash & Racketball is investing £40,000 under the deal.
