Honda loses out on $255m F1 windfall

Honda, the previous owner of the Brawn GP Formula One team which won both the drivers' and constructors' championships on Sunday, missed out on at least $255 million of brand exposure during this season, according to a media analysis company.

Reuters reports that UK-based Margaux Matrix Ltd analysed television broadcasts and advertising rates in 18 countries during the first 15 races of the season. Brawn GP cars got 8.5 hours of international coverage in those races, more than the Ferrari team, and over three times more than what Honda got last year.

Honda left F1 at the end of last season in order to save at least 20 billion yen ($221 million) a year in costs as the credit crunch hit its sales.
