Emirates Airline Champion Stakes televised live in Hong Kong

Phumelela Gold Enterprises (PGE) has signed a deal with the Hong Kong Jockey Club for the Group 1 showpiece Emirates Airline Champion Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday to be broadcast live in Hong Kong for the first time.

PGE is responsible for international distribution of the global betting-related broadcast rights of the 30 Racing UK racecourses.

The deal arises from a government dispensation which allows the Hong Kong Jockey Club to simulcast 10 overseas races on Hong Kong local race days and fifteen overseas meetings on non-Hong Kong local race days annually.

“The Emirates Airline Champion Stakes is the last middle-distance battleground for top-rated horses in the European season,” said Stephen Wallis, Managing Director of Newmarket Racecourses.

“As such it has long been a race which cements reputations for jockey, trainer and horse alike. Newmarket is thrilled to hear that the race will be carried in Hong Kong for the first time. We are fully aware this would not have been possible without the 48-hour declaration rule.”

The race will be shown in the Hong Kong betting shops, as well as at Sha Tin Racecourse, where racing is being staged that day.
