Fennell: India "behind schedule" for Commonwealth Games

Commonwealth Games Federation chief Mike Fennell has warned Delhi it faces a major challenge to be ready to host next year's games.

Yesterday Fennell criticised the Indian organisers, saying construction delays posed a serious threat to the games.

Many facilities being built for the event have missed deadlines and Fennell said there could be "no more slippages".

International experts are to be brought in to assist the Indians in areas such as logistics, ticketing and operations.

Suresh Kalmadi, organising committee chairman of the event, insisted India was up to the task saying: "There are many challenges, but I can assure you that we will live up to them."

The games are due to take place in October next year.
