Among the major events featured in the shortlist are the Indian Premier League (IPL), the WTA Tour Championships, ICC World Twenty20, Wimbledon Championships and the FIFA Confederations Cup.
IPL supremo Lalit Modi, International Olympic Committee (IOC) head of events Gilbert Felli and veteran sports marketing guru Patrick Nally are among the individuals in the running for the Outstanding Contribution Award, won last year by Formula One’s Bernie Ecclestone.
But the breadth and creativity within the events sector is also highlighted by the inclusion on the shortlist of entries including the BUPA Great North Run, the 17th Golden Oldies Rugby festival and the GAA All Ireland Quarter Finals.
Over 150 entries were received for the third edition of the fast-growing awards programme and a panel of distinguished international judges, including newly-elected IOC Executive Committee member Sir Craig Reedie, will shortly begin their deliberations.
