Harrington and Wie join golf’s 2016 Olympics push

Golfers Padraig Harrington and Michelle Wie are going to Copenhagen to be present at the International Golf Federation’s final pitch for the sport to be included in the 2016 Olympics.

Bloomberg reports that Harrington and Wie will join Suzann Pettersen of Norway and 16-year-old British amateur champion Matteo Manassero of Italy at the IGF pitch on Friday, the same day a vote will take place to decide if either golf or rugby sevens will be added to the Olympic programme.

Golf was last in the Olympics in 1904, and rugby’s 15-a-side version made an appearance in 1924. Golf’s proposal is for 72-hole men’s and women’s competitions played over four days, with the three lowest scorers getting medals.
