Hatoyama will arrive ahead of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) 2016 Host City selection, where he will present to members of the IOC on October 2.
The White House also announced yesterday that President Barack Obama will travel to Copenhagen to join First Lady Michelle Obama in support of the Chicago 2016 bid.
All bidding cities will make a presentation to a 115-member IOC meeting which will then cast its votes the same day.
“Prime Minister Hatoyama has a new vision for Japan, which will benefit the Olympic Movement if Tokyo is awarded the honour of hosting the 2016 Games,” said Dr. Ichiro Kono, Chair and CEO of Tokyo 2016. “He brings with him the support of more than 100 million passionate sports fans in our nation and total guarantees for the IOC, which we know are extremely important in these difficult times globally.”
If Tokyo wins the right to host the 2016 Games it promises to deliver a 100-year sporting, social, economic and environmental legacy for Tokyo, Japan, Asia and the world, creating 161,000 new jobs.
