Volkswagen deal takes Sochi sponsorship past $750m

The Russian branch of carmaker Volkswagen has signed on as a tier one sponsor of the Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The deal brings the total value of the Sochi Games’ domestic sponsorships to over $750 million.

The Sochi 2014 organisers said Volkswagen Group Rus won the right to be a General Partner after a competitive tender process. The deal will involve cash and value-in-kind support for the Games, including seeing Volkswagen provide around 3,000 Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda-branded vehicles to the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee for use during Games and their preparations.

Volkswagen has also signed up to be general partner of the Russian Olympic and Paralympic teams at the 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016 Games.

The company joins Megafon, Rostelecom, Rosneft, Sberbank and Aeroflot as general partners of the Games.
