ECB-Royal Mint partnership to auction Ashes gold medals

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Royal Mint have agreed a partnership to produce an official licensed limited edition gold medal to celebrate England’s victory in the 2009 npower Ashes Series.

Exactly 150 coins have been produced and medals 001–005 specially engraved with the venue and date as they were used for the coin toss prior to the start of each Test match. The medals retail for £1,595 but will be sold at auction with proceeds being split between the ECB’s five partner charities.

"We want to provide the public with a unique opportunity to own a piece of cricketing history, whilst creating a legacy for our official charities, therefore we have decided to auction the 5 npower Ashes Series medals individually online,” said ECB chief executive David Collier.

ECB partner charities are Cricket Against Hunger, Chance to shine, The Lord’s Taverners, The Prince’s Trust and the PCA Benevolent Fund.

Further details regarding the online sale of the medals can be found at http://www.ecb.co.uk/auctions
