New COO for Pakistan Cricket Board

Pakistan's cricket board has appointed former national team captain Wasim Bari as chief operating officer, replacing Salim Altaf, who Agence France-Presse reports was sacked earlier this month apparently because of differences with PCB chairman Ijaz Butt.

Bari has said he will attempt to revive the fortunes of Pakistan cricket, which has recently been rocked by security fears about international matches played in the country and scandals.

"Pakistan cricket has suffered badly, but we are trying our level best to lift it and we will do it with the best of efforts," he told AFP.

"This new post is a great challenge for me. I will do my best to work for the promotion of the game in Pakistan. I like working together and with consensus, that is my principle."

AFP reports that Altaf recently criticised Butt for running the PCB as a one-man show. Altaf was a close ally of Butt when he took over as part of a new board in October last year.
