IOC agrees $100m Olympics TV rights deal in Spain

Spanish public-service broadcaster RTVE has acquired the media rights for the 2014 and 2016 Olympics, paying $100 million.

Reuters reports that RTVE’s rights under the deal cover free-to-air and pay-television, internet, mobile telephone and radio. Spain is one of the six European countries into which the rights are being sold directly by the IOC. The Sportfive agency acquired the rights for all other European territories except Spain, Italy, Turkey, Germany, the UK and France. Deals are yet to be agreed in Germany, the UK and France.

Spanish capital Madrid will learn next month if it has beaten Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo and Chicago to the rights to host the 2016 Summer Games.
