Canal Plus buys into STATS, Orad broadcast technology

Orad and STATS, partners in the provision of sports analysis technology to broadcasters, have agreed a new deal with French pay-broadcaster Canal+.

The deal will provide Canal+ with technology allowing it, among other features, to track the position of players on pitches and provide statistics on the time they have spent in possession, the distance they have covered, and what parts of the pitch they have spent most of their time in.

These services will be delivered by a combination of STATS' "SportVU" product and Orad's "3DPlay" product.

"We are very happy that Canal+, with its premium sport content, high quality editorial policy, and continuous technological innovations, chose to rely on our solution every weekend for its broadcast of main football matches," said Avi Sharir, CEO and President of Orad Hi Tec Systems. "This combined solution has already been widely received by leading broadcasters worldwide, such as DigiTurk Turkey, who are relying on it for its football productions."

Shimon Katzubes, Managing Director of SportVU, said, "The STATS-Orad solution offers a full menu of replay and post-game broadcast effects, 360-degree game views and full-scene animations. By utilizing these dramatic viewing enhancements, Canal + can take advantage of attractive new sponsor platforms and interactive advertising opportunities."
