The BBC reports that, while the clubs matched the £215 million spent on transfers within the Premier League, they spent $95 million less on transfers from overseas teams, which Deloitte partly attributed to Sterling's weakness and the new 50 per cent tax rate in the UK.
The biggest spenders were Manchester City, whose £120 million outlay made up 27 per cent of total spending. Aston Villa, Liverpool, Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur all spent over £25 million.
