Under the deal Aeroflot has been awarded General Partner status in the Sochi 2014 Passenger Air Transportation Services category and will “ensure maximum efficiency in cooperation during preparations for the main global sports event of 2014”.
Aeroflot will have exclusive rights to use the symbols of the XXII Olympic and XI Paralympic Winter Games as well as symbols of the National Olympic and Paralympic Committees in the territory of Russia.
Aeroflot is planning to exploit the partnership through marketing and advertising initiatives aimed at strengthening its image and developing its air transportation network. It will also increase the number of regular flights bound for Sochi and launch new direct flights from Sochi to parts of Europe.
Dmitry Chernyshenko, Sochi 2014 President and CEO, said: “Let me first thank all the companies who participated in the contest. Teaming up with Aeroflot means reliable partnership for us, a partnership with the company well known not only in our country but also around the world. I am confident that our cooperation will prove vital in delivering the Games in accordance with the highest international standards.”
A memorandum of understanding was signed between Aeroflot director general Vitaly Savelyev and Chernyshenko at the MAKS-2009 aviation and space industry show.
The contract – which also makes Aeroflot general partner of the Russian Olympic and Paralympic teams (at the 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016 Olympic Games) - will be completed by the end of 2009.
