Barton’s land development business JMJ Holdings will take over as the team’s owner from the Matarrese family when the purchase is completed later this year, according to a statement from the Dallas-based company.
“This is a fantastic opportunity,” Barton told the Bari website. “The Bari fans are passionate about their team and with new management we hope to grow this franchise into one of the most successful and competitive in Europe.”
Vincenzo Matarrese will remain as president of Bari - which opens the season at defending champions Inter Milan on Sunday – until the deal goes through.
JMJ Holdings specialises in resort projects in the United States, Mexico and the United Arab Emirates. Barton started out in his family’s real estate business in Connecticut and founded JMJ Holdings in 1990.
