The big clubs in Spain and Italy have profited from exploiting their television rights individually however Kenyon told Reuters that maintaining collective negotiation power has brought a competitive advantage for Premier League clubs over its European rivals.
"The collective sale of TV rights has served the Premier League extremely well since it was conceived and we'd be absolutely against breaking the current model," he said ahead of this weekend’s Premier League season kick-off.
"If you look at the spread of monies between bottom and top it's the lowest in the major leagues. It is the health of the league ultimately that allows individual clubs to be strong. I'm all for competition but not at the expense of a Chelsea going out and selling its own rights. That would be to the long term detriment of the league and of Chelsea."
Kenyon joined Chelsea from Manchester United soon after Abramovich's takeover in 2003, during which time the club's annual revenue has doubled.
