Dr. Jordaan was integral in bringing the 2010 FIFA World Cup to South Africa and will spread his belief that next year’s World Cup will have a major impact in building racial harmony and stimulating future economic growth in South Africa at the Soccerex event.
“The World Cup is about much more than just 64 games of football spread over 30 days. This World Cup could unite South Africa more than any other event has done. The World Cup gives an unprecedented opportunity to nation-build, to brand our country and to leave a lasting legacy,” said Dr. Jordaan.
Oswald is chairman of the watchdog that oversees preparations for the London 2012 Olympics. In addition to being a member of the IOC executive board and head of the International Rowing Federation, he was previously head of the co-ordination commission for the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
According to Taleb Rifai, the United Nations World Tourism Organisation’s secretary-general, sporting events such as the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the London 2012 Olympics will act as a catalyst to revive the ailing global travel and tourism industry.
