The bidding for the five-year ownership of the eight zonal franchises – which totalled Rs 350 million ($7.4 million) - concluded at 16.00 yesterday. The bidders will have to pay the first instalment of their respective bid amounts by August 10 to enable them to participate in the player auction, scheduled to be held on August 14.
The Bangalore Urban team received the biggest bid of Rs 72 million ($1.5 million) from Bangalore property developer Brigade Group. Other bids were for Bangalore Rural from the Purvankara group (Rs 55.5 million), Mangalore (Fizza Developers/Rs 42.3 million), Mysore (Kuppendra Reddy/Rs 32.5 million), Belgaum (Subhash Enterprises/Rs 38.1 million), Hubli-Dharwad (Shamanur Shivashankarappa/Rs 37.7 million), Gulburga (Nandish Reddy/Rs 35.5 million) and Shimoga (Jayaprakash Hegde/Rs 32.5 million).
The inaugural Twenty20 KPL, modelled on the Indian Premier League (IPL), will be held from 12 - 27 September. Four of the matches will be held in Mysore with the rest played in Bangalore under floodlights.
The KSCA is organising the tournament in association with sports management firm Frontiers Group India.
