Alinghi, which races in the colours of Societe Nautique de Geneve (SNG), selects the racing site as host club. It is believed the decision to switch from Valencia in Spain is due to the time of the year in which they will race and heavy seas in the Mediterranean.
A spokesman for two-time defending champion Alinghi of Switzerland said the venue “offers perfect weather and great sailing conditions” for the race against Oracle, from the Golden Gate Yacht Club (GGYC) in San Francisco.
The one-on-one race follows a convoluted two-year legal fight between Alinghi-backing biotech tycoon Ernesto Bertarelli and US billionaire Larry Ellison, the founder and CEO of business software giant Oracle Corp, over who was the legitimate challenger following the 2007 Cup.
Alinghi trained in Dubai, UAE, prior to the America's Cup in 2007, when it beat Team New Zealand in Valencia, Spain.
