Ecclestone told Swiss magazine Motorsport Aktuell on Tuesday that a potential deal would keep Formula One in the second biggest city in Canada for at least the next seven years.
"We will return to Canada in 2010," he told the magazine. "I know everyone connected with F1 loves the Canadian Grand Prix."
He later told CBC Radio that "we have an in-principle agreement of how we're going to make the race happen."
The event was dropped from the 2009 Formula One calendar following a disagreement over rights fees. Ecclestone wanted CA$175 million to keep the Montreal race on the 2009 schedule, deemed to high a cost by the event organisers and the government.
