8m Indian viewers for Wimbledon final

ESPN Star Sports (ESS) in India drew just under 8 million viewers for the Wimbledon men’s final between Roger Federer and Andy Roddick on 5 July.

Last year ESS attracted 1.4 million viewers for the men’s final between Federer and Rafael Nadal. According to TAM Media Research, the final drew a TVR of 0.29, narrowly higher than the TVR score of 0.28 for last year’s final.

"While the number is small, there are people in this age group who are passionate about tennis and follow it regularly. Their spending power is also strong. That is why upper end brands like Samsung Electronics, Bose and Rolex get involved,” said Sejal Shah, senior vice president of media planner IMX Media.

The cumulative reach of the tournament was 33 million.
