Under the terms of the deal Wasserman will work on behalf of Castrol until December 2010 to negotiate, secure and manage a number of high profile international ambassadors for the FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
“Our association with Wasserman has already delivered strong value to our business through accessing their specialist skills and capabilities,” said Donald Smith, global sponsorship manager with Castrol’s sponsorship and global marketing unit. “Wasserman has been leading the delivery of Castrol's ambassador program already securing a strong portfolio of ambassadors and managing these in conjunction with our business to ensure we extract maximum value through our exploitation programmes.”
Steve Curnow, Wasserman senior vice president, added: “Our partnership with Castrol is further evidence of Wasserman’s growing reputation as one of the world’s leading Sports Consultancies, adding to our strong portfolio of brand partners in both the USA and Europe,”
Most recently Wasserman completed the high profile signing of Real Madrid and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo to become a global Castrol ambassador. Castrol ambassadors also include Alan Shearer, Pierluigi Collina, Emilio Butragueño and Marcel Desailly, all of whom will support Castrol’s sponsorship of the 2010 event.
