The North American National Hockey League and US free-to-air broadcaster NBC have extended their broadcast rights deal by two years.
The Associated Press reports that the deal extension covers NHL matches beginning with the 2010 Winter Classic, at the Boston Red Sox MLB team’s home ground Fenway Park, through to the end of the 2010-11 season. NBC will broadcast nine regular season matches, weekend matches during the playoffs, and up to five games from the Stanley Cup finals.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said the deal was “basically” the same as the previous agreement, under which NBC shares advertising revenues with the league.
