The LPGA, the women’s golf federation, will hire an interim commissioner for the next few months as it looks to replace current commissioner Carolyn Bivens.
The International Herald Tribune reports that Bivens is to step down this week, following the US Women’s Open at the weekend. Earlier this month, 15 players on the tour signed a letter demanding that she resign. She had been blamed for the loss of sponsors from the tour due to her unwillingness to negotiate with them.
“I think Carolyn’s done a lot of great things for our tour, and I think she worked really hard,” said Juli Inkster, one of the tour’s player directors. “But some of the things she tried to do just didn’t work, and whether it’s her fault or not, it just wasn’t working.”
