The South Australian State Government has said the 2009 Clipsal 500 V8 Supercar event contributed more than A$33 million to the local economy.
The V8 Supercar Championship Series is Australia’s biggest domestic motor-racing series.
Australian Sponsorship News reports that South Australian State Treasurer Kevin Foley said, “In its eleventh year the event has continued to provide huge returns to the state and while attendance numbers were predictably slightly lower this year the economic benefit grew to a conservative figure of $33.5m from $31.32m in 2008.”
The attendance at the 2009 race was 272,800 over four days.
He said the Clipsal 500 had provided a total of A$252 million to the state in the 11 years it has been running, and generated 647,252 visitor bed nights.
