Angolan oil and gas company Sonangol has become title sponsor of the Superleague Formula motor racing series.

Angolan oil and gas company Sonangol has become title sponsor of the Superleague Formula motor racing series.

The competition will be renamed “Sugerleague Formula by Sonangol” for the duration of the deal, covering the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

The announcement came days before the start of the competition’s second season, with Superleague Formula President, Alex Andreu, saying that he felt Sonangol would “play a major part in the on-going development and growth of Superleague Formula”.

Sonangol is a part state-owned company that manages the exploitation of Angola’s oil and gas resources. The Angolan government is the sole shareholder, but the company’s website says it has “always been run as a private company”.
